Controla Windows desde Twitter, con Tweet My PC…
TweetMyPC nos ofrece una interesantísima alternativa de uso de Twitter, y es, precisamente, la posibilidad de utilizarlo para controlar nuestra PC remotamente, enviando mensajes vía este popular servicio.
De hecho, si probaste Twitter y lo abandonaste por no encontrarle la gracia, pero aún tienes una cuenta, por qué no probar Tweet My PC? Es una divertida y útil manera de controlar nuestro PC desde donde estemos.
Para explicarlo mejor, no, no se trata de enviar un mensaje como «æpcdejosito apágate». Sino más bien, lo que TweetMyPC hace, es buscar actualizaciones a una sola cuenta. Es decir, nosotros actualizamos nuestra cuenta (una creada para TweetMyPC) y escribimos Shutdown. Cuando TweetMyPC recoja los mensajes, encontrará ese comando, y se apagará.
De hecho, la actualización a la versión 3.0 trajo un montón de novedades, pues con la posibilidad de crear comandos personalizados, podemos hacer mucho más que simplemente reiniciar la PC.
Qué podemos hacer con TweetMyPC?
- Tomar una foto a nuestro escritorio, que será subida directamente a TwitPic (para saber si, por ejemplo, alguien está usando nuestra PC)
- Apagar, hibernar, poner en standby el PC
- Hacer que nos envíe un documento que esté en nuestra PC, vía e-mail.
- Pedirle un listado de los archivos que tenemos en el PC.
- Crear comandos personalizados
En resumen, es una manera bastante innovativa y, por qué no, bastante “cool” de interactuar con elPC. Un “hey mira lo que puedo hacer por twitter desde mi móvil!”.
Instalar / Configurar TweetMyPC
Los pasos a seguir, para empezar a controlar nuestro PC vía Twitter, son bastante simples:
- Vamos a Twitter y creamos una nueva cuenta (podemos usar la actual, pero , mejor algo como «Pc de Juanito», pues cualquiera que tenga el password, podrá controlar dicha PC)
Ahora, vamos a «Settings» en Twitter, y en la parte final, asegúrate de marcar «Protect My Updates». De esta manera, nos aseguramos que nadie pueda leer nuestros comandos.
Ahora, instalamos -lanzamos el programa, y llenamos los datos de la cuenta de Twitter (y la de Gmail por si queremos poder recibir documentos). Además, si queremos seguir mandando comandos luego de reiniciar, es necesario que actives “Start automatically with Windows”
Una vez guardados los datos, podemos empezar a divertirnos con los comandos!

Ahora podemos agregar la cuenta a nuestro cliente de Twitter favorito (como Mixero, TweetDeck, Tweetie) y decirle a nuestro PC qué es lo que tiene que hacer, y cuando.

Los comandos disponibles hasta ahora. TweetMyPC revisa nuevos comandos cada minuto.
Recuerda! Todo en minúsculas!
- shutdown : apaga el PC
- restart: reinicia el PC
- logoff: cierra nuestra sesión
- hibernate: pone a el PC en modo hibernación
- lock: bloquea el PC (para evitar que alguien más lo use en nuestra ausencia)
- getprocesslist: obtener una lista de los procesos / aplicaciones que están corriendo en el PC. Lo enviará por email a la dirección establecida.
- killprocess :Se utiliza junto con el comando anterior. Una vez que reciba la lista de procesos puede cerrar un programa utilizando el comando kill.
- download <url>: con este comando (y un link directo) podemos aprovechar la conexión en casa, y ordenarle a nuestro PC, por ejemplo, que empiece a descargar cualquier cosa que necesitemos. Ejemplo: download http://servidor.com/archivo.zip
- screenshot: Tomará una fotografía del escritorio, subiéndola inmediatamente a TwitPic.
- getfilelist <letra/directorio>: Con este comando, le diremos a TweetMyPC que nos mande por email una lista de los archivos que están en nuestro disco duro. Ejemplo:getfilelist c:\temp\
- getfile <dirección>: Como te imaginas, este útil comando enviará por mail el documento que necesitemos, por si lo olvidamos en el PC en casa. Usarlo en combinación con el comando anterior para saber la dirección exacta. Ejemplo: getfilelist c:\temp\texto.txt
- ip: Averiguar la dirección IP de nuestro PC.
- Comandos personalizados: No sólo tenemos que limitarnos a las opciones que ves. Quieres lanzar uTorrent? Basta con ir a Settings / Custom Commands, darle un nombre (torrent, por ejemplo), y luego buscar el archivo a ejecutar. Ahora, en Twitter simplemente mandamos el comando torrent, y la PC automáticamente iniciará uTorrent (que luego podemos cerrar con lo de killprocess).
Una manera divertida de interactuar con nuestro PC, definitivamente. Y desde la implementación de todos estos nuevos comandos, se ha vuelto muy útil, también. Pruébalo! Seguro te divertirás por un buen rato haciendo todo esto vía Twitter.

| virtual memory | Want to know the free virtual memory of your pc? Just tweet virtual memory |
| os | This is one of the command which does not have much value. Tweeting “os” will make TweetMyPC to tweet about your Operating System version. |
| ip | Know your pc’s internal and external IP-Address from anywhere in the world with this command |
| screenshot | Want to know what is happening in your pc when you are not around? Just tweet screenshot and TweetMyPC will take a screenshot of your desktop and post it to Twitpic. |
| getprocesslist | This is one of the very useful commands. On receiving this command TweetMyPC will generate a list of running programs, along with the process ID, and email it to a predefined email address. |
| kill <process id> | This is used along with the above command. Once you receive the process list you can close a program using the kill command. |
| download <URL> | Want to download an interesting video but you are on the move? Don’t worry – just tweet download followed by the download URL and TweetMyPC will download it for you and it will be ready when you return back. Note: Twitter automatically converts long URLs into short one using bit.ly. TweetMyPC can download files only if the URL is in the short form for security reasons. Please use bit.ly to shorten your URL before posting. |
| getfile <filepath> | Missed an important document and you are traveling somewhere? No problem. Just tweet get followed by the file path and TweetMyPC will email the file as attachment to a predefined email. Don’t know the path? Don’t worry. Just checkout the next command. |

| ping | When TweetMyPC reads this, it will answer that it is running and checks for tweets – This is really helpful to see if TweetMyPC is working and if your commands will have any effect. +fun link 😉 try it! |
| message <your message-text> | Thanks to this command you can send a custom message to your computer, which will be shown as message-box, so you can communicate with other people sitting in front of your computer or just send a notification to yourself to read them later. |

With this new release of TweetMyPC you can start any program or shell-command with parameters just by using twitter and this program! You can start any program you want by adding it in the CustomCommand-Window of TweetMyPC and then tweeting the specified name of it. But also you can just add parameters to the tweets. Thanks to this you can now for example start your torrent-client with the torrent download-url as parameter or you can open Winamp and play a webstream, local file or whatever you want.
